Antibiotic for Urinary Infections Has a Downside, Study Finds – NYTimes.com.

Ummm yeah, I’d say recurrent infections of antibiotic resistant strains is a major downside!  Unfortunately this is often the case with antibiotic treatment, whether the infection is in the ear, the throat or the urinary tract. It seems to work, but the infection comes back stronger than ever a short time later.

Infections must be addressed, but they don’t necessarily have to be addressed with antibiotics.  There are other safe and effective approaches. As always, I recommend strengthening the “terrain” as well as directly treating the infection, i.e. supporting the immune system, addressing nutritional imbalances, sleep, hydration, etc.

Is it more complicated than taking a pill? Sure, but you will be healthier in all ways, and more protected from further illness, rather than courting it.

Cranberry is not the only alternative for UTIs. I work with several formulas in my practice that have helped clients with a pattern of chronic urinary tract infections.
