Hi Robyn,
Nice to hear from you! I'm not sure what kind of testing they did, but the doctor would need to know what kind of test to use and also how to interpret it, which many of them don't. Skin testing is pretty useless for food sensitivities, yet that is what many doctors still use. There is also a new test that looks for inflammation markers rather than immune response. In any case, nutrition is a HUGE issue for kids on the spectrum. In fact, one very successful clinician I know of calls it "a disease of the gut". After all, if you can't utilize the nutrients in your food, your brain, and the rest of you, essentially starves. The results in my practice consistently prove this to be true: identify and eliminate food sensitivities, and heal the gut, and you will see significant changes.

Hi Fran,

I love this article. I have a friend whose son is diagnosed as having high-functioning autism as well as being bi-polar. I keep sending her information about changing the diet, but she says that she went to the doctor and had her son tested for food allergies and was told that he didn't have any. I'm sending her the link to this page. Hopefully she will find it helpful.

Thanks, Doreen, but I can't take the credit. That goes to the amazing Designer who makes all healing possible. We are meant to be healthy and happy: it's just a question of finding the right information and support.
